Literature Text

(VERSE 1)
Her heart is torn
Between wanting more
And having so much that she can’t be
Forever cursed
With eternal thirst
For the one thing that's just out of her reach

(REFRAIN)
Her heart inside
Is black as night
As thoughts so cold
Consume her
If all is fair in love and war
Then lay her down to sleep

(VERSE 2)
There once was light
So long ago
She doesn't quite remember
But should she try
To change the lie
Which is the truth that defines her

(REFRAIN)

(BRIDGE)
Insanity
Is just out of reach
Is it so wrong
To long
For the blackness inside

(VERSE 3)
The rush is gone
It’s been so long
Why must she never lose?
For once she wants
To be the cause
Of her own defeat

(ENDING REFRAIN)
Her heart inside
Is black as night
As thoughts so cold
Consume her
If all is fair in love and war
Then lay her down to sleep
Let her rest in peace
I have always been a huge fan of ATLA, and although I love all of the characters I have always had a soft spot for Azula. Not only is she an awesome villian, but she is arguably the most complex and misunderstood character in the entire series. I can't make visual art worth crap; I am better at writing stories, poems, and music. These are the lyrics of a song I wrote with Azula in mind.

To explain the lyrics a bit, I have always felt that Azula just lives with this complex inner turmoil. She wants to be loved, but she wants to be feared, and she seems to mistake fear and awe for love. Real love is the one thing that is just out of her reach. There is so much pressure coming not only from others but from herself to be perfect. Maybe just once, she wants to NOT be perfect and be loved in spite of it.

Obviously the character Azula does not belong to me, but the lyrics and music are my original work.

Thanks :)
